Summary: "Could have been better."

I read this book as a way to soothe my longing for a new Sookie Stackhouse novel. Oddly, I was a little put off by how derivative it was of a Sookie novel. Honestly, the main love interest is named Eric...strange. But generally I thought it was a way to meld vampire fiction with Gone With the Wind, which the author obviously likes since she references it in her book. The heroine is a 21st century Scarlett O'Hara and the Eric Sinclaire character is her Rhett Butler. Some of the jokes were a little lame and at the level of a middle schooler. There were times when I wished a character would stake her protagonist with the heel of one of her beloved Manolos. Also, as an African American her treatment of the two black characters was very bad. It's like she learned about black people by watching 70s sitcoms and blaxploitation films. Still, I applaud her for having black characters at all. Overall it's an okay book, but nothing I would regret not reading.

Summary: "very funny"

Betsy Taylor turns 30, gets laid off, is killed by an SUV and wakes up dead all in the same week. The vampire community is convinced she's their prophesied Queen. But she's not having any of it--she's got shoes to buy! And now the undead world is being turned upside-down by a Bela Lugosi throwback and her subjects expect her to take care of it! Why didn't she read the handbook? But her would-be consort, Eric Sinclair, is (annoyingly) ever-present. If only he wasn't so tall, dark, gorgeous...and undead.

This book was great. Betsy is super funny she reminds me of my self at times, she has a short attention span , quick witty come backs and great shoes (ok maybe not the great shoes, but i have great books instead). Betsy has the worst week of her life then she dies. She wakes up to find her step monster has stolen her shoes and replaced them with her own Payless knock offs so her biggest worry is getting her shoes and her life back but then she is kidnapped by a very gross little man, who wants her to swore allegiance to him. She insults him and laughs at him when he trys to punish her. Never the less she finds her self in the middle of a vampire war she wants nothing to do with . Then she meets the irresistible Sinclair . She cant stand this arrogant self righteous man but at the same time cant stay away form him because he is the only one who can help her adjust to her new undead life and deal with these vampire politics that shed rather have nothing to do with. With her best friend and her newly found friend at her side she will get though this and hopefully find away to stay away from the dangerously handsome Sinclair.

Summary: "Very silly and very funny"

This book is comic chicklit vampire paranormal romance. If you've read Lyndsay Sands' books this is the same genre, but a lot shorter and sillier. Very little in this book can be taken seriously but for all that it's a short, laugh-out-loud read.

The story is told from Betsy's point of view. Betsy is a shoe-obsessed former model with a snarky attitude who is hit by a car in the first chapter and winds up dead in the morgue. She rises as a vampire but it takes her a while to figure it out and in the meantime she learns that religious symbols, sunlight etc. have no effect on her. This apparently makes her the prophesied Queen of the Vampires, but Betsy's not having any of it. Between Betsy's idiotic antics, snarky commentary, hilarious side-kick duo and the sexy Eric Sinclair this book is good for a couple of hours worth of light entertainment. There was much laugh out loud laughter combined with head-shaking and eye-rolling but it left me in a very happy mood afterwards.

Definitely plan on reading the next one but if you like your vampires serious and angsty it's not for you.
